Spawning many animated series, movies and video games, Batman is one of the most popular fictional comic book superhero of all time. Created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, the Batman first appeared in DC Comics publications in 1939 telling the story of Batman’s secret identity ,Bruce Wayne, an American millionaire and philanthropist in the fictional American Gotham City. Sometimes called to be the greatest detective, Batman investigates and solves cases and crimes around the city and help in capturing these villains often assisted by his partner and sidekick Robin and the police commissioner Jim Gordon. Popular villains and enemies of Batman include the Joker, the Penguin, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, the Riddler, and many others. Batman is also known as the Dark Knight or the Cape Crusader. Unlike other superheroes in popular culture with superhuman powers and abilities, Batman relies on his intellect, wealth, martial arts skills, technology in fighting his enemies. With his popularity throughout the years, Batman became a pop culture icon around the world and has been seen and adopted in many comics, animations, video games and movies.
