With the advancement of information technology and the wide use of the cyberspace, this genre is becoming more and more popular and gives an imaginative picture of how these advancements will change our culture and social order.

Cyberpunk is a science fiction genre in a postmodern or high-tech setting. From cybernetics and punk, it talks about advanced science such as Information Technology and the use of these technologies but set in a near-future setting rather than the far future environment. Such technologies are involved and cyberpunk stories often revolve around hackers, cyborgs, artificial intelligence and the like. Some of these popular cyberpunk-themed stories are Neuromancer, Blade Runner, The Matrix. Cyberpunk genre is also very popular in many Japanese anime and manga works. Some of these popular literature and animations include Armitage III, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Serial Experiments Lane, Ergo Proxy, and a lot more.
