Very popular in literary arts, pirates are described in many adventure and fictional stories in middle ages and ancient settings. These bandits of the seas left inspiring and interesting tales like Sinbad the Sailor, Captain Hook, Pirates of the Caribbean, Treasure Island, and a lot more.

In popular culture, pirates are usually characterized to have a cutlass, a hook, bicorne hat, sometimes a parrot in his shoulder, and the popular eye patch. Pirates are usually described to engage in robbery, raiding and looting goods from other ships, hijacking and committing other crimes at sea. Piracy is a term to be describe these acts. In modern times, piracy is not only limited to acts aggression or crimes at sea but can also be used in other forms of stealing, raids, air piracy or hijacking, software piracy.
