I live in Japan and I can tell you domo-kun is NOT a popular character in Japan. Domo is more popular in the U.S. I never see any domo stuff for sale at any stores in Japan, its pretty rare. Rilakkuma is very popular in Japan and of course Hello Kitty/Sanrio.
