Today we celebrate the 8th Software Freedom Day. This international event began in 2004 to spread awareness, encourage the use of, and to educate minds about free and open-source software and applications.

Free software and open-source applications are becoming more and more popular and coming in par with their proprietary counterparts and competitors. Not only that it is free, but continued support and development are also present to many of these open-source software and operating systems. Free and open-source software or sometimes called libre softwares are licensed programs which grants users to freely use, modify or improve the existing software release because of the availability of its source code.
